Data Science

Optika has a team of mathematical data scientists and operations researchers.  They work with our partner companies and clients to develop ground-breaking solutions to some of the most novel and complex problems using our products, tools, libraries and expertise

We have extensive experience in developing data science applications in R and Python. More recently, we have used advanced artificial intelligence techniques to develop applications that solve problems in both supervised and unsupervised capacities. These applications have been used in:

What is Data Science?

Data science is the practice of deriving valuable insights from data. Data science is emerging to meet the challenges of processing very large data sets or what is commonly referred to as “Big Data”.  Big Data consists of structured, unstructured or semi-structured data.

Data science employs techniques and theories drawn from many disciplines within the broad areas of mathematics, statistics, information theory, and computer science.

These include: signal processing; probability models; machine learning; statistical learning; data mining; databases; data engineering; pattern recognition and learning; visualisation; predictive analytics; uncertainty modelling; data warehousing; data compression; computer programming; and high performance computing.

The development of machine learning, a branch of artificial intelligence, is used to uncover patterns in data from which predictive models can be developed.  This has enhanced the growth and importance of data science.
